Most of us want to be ethical in the workplace, but are vulnerable to our own biases on how we interpret and process information. This session highlights some of the most common biases people have that inadvertently cause is to act unethically even if we are well-intentioned. This session will also offer strategies to minimize the risk of unethical behavior in the work environment.

1. Understand how the human mind makes ethical decisions in varying environments.

2. Highlight common unconscious biases and heuristics that inhibit objectivity.

3. Provide practical steps that encourage reflective and ethical decision making at work.

Robert Bird

Professor of Business Law and Eversource Energy Chair in Business Ethics
University of Connecticut

Robert Bird is a Professor of Business Law and the Eversource Energy Chair in Business Ethics at the University of Connecticut. Robert is also the co-director of the Certificate in Corporate and Regulatory Compliance. A JD/MBA graduate from Boston University, Robert's scholarship focuses on compliance, business ethics, legal strategy, and employment law. Robert has authored over sixty publications, including articles in the Journal of Law and Economics, American Business Law Journal, and the MIT Sloan Management Review. Robert is a past president of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the international academic organization for professors of business law.
